For this set of images, I had places several strawberries on a lanyard of holiday decorations. The strawberries are piled on top of each other on the decorations because organizing the strawberries would have made the image look a little off put, because they're not symmetric. The strawberries are the focal point of the still life but being contrasted to the bright and shiny red decorations makes them pop into emphasis. It is important to take still life photographs that are focused and that draw attention to the picture.
My house had endless drawers and cabinets filled with random pencils and pens for our use. I gathered together some colored pencils from the same brand and placed them all in a line together. I didn't want to place them in rainbow order because I though that would have been a little too generic. So, I placed the colored pencils in random order and lined up the bottoms of the pencils so that they started from the same place. The natural light highlights the Crayola logo on a lot of the pencils and gives a glare to the glaze. Capturing these colored pencils shows something important from my childhood and some sentimental parts on my house.
For this set of still life images of candy canes, I have decided to avoid a clear white background because I felt that it would take away from the candy canes, seeing as both are white. I put the candy canes in a pattern wheel to visually please the viewer because the candy canes are identical, so creating a sense of balance in the image is crucial. The natural light from outside makes the white of the object pop. I chose these for my still life object because of the representation they hold for the holiday time. My family always seems to have hundreds of candy canes lying around the house during the holiday season so I though that representing them in a different way would be unique.
These boxes of leftovers were left in my fridge from the night before when my family and I went out late and got dinner to eat. I arranged them so that the corners of the boxes were touching. The boxes have these square indents on the top and I though that arranging them in a pattern would be a cool way to attract the viewer's eyes. I thought that documenting these boxes would show the importance of the little things in life. Although these are simply dirty and cheap takeout boxes, they represent the fun times that I have with my family and how we can 'take' the fun anywhere. The shadows from the light onto the boxes are highlighted, creating an interesting shadow.
These spheric chocolates are always in my house during the holiday times, as they are a favorite in my house. Since they are identical and so small, organizing them in a pattern is ideal for the photographs. Since the wrappers are white, I though that it would be best to place them on a darker surface to make them pop and to bring more attention to the still life. The natural light hits the aluminum so that it really shine. Having symmetry in a photo draws the viewer in as well. I found the items in the jar that is filled with sweets.
